Volvo has started a new programin the United Statesthat allows owners to have their cars serviced without leaving their homes or offices.
It’s called Volvo Valet and the automaker describes it as a “premium pick-up and drop-off service for vehicle maintenance in the U.S.” The program offers owners exclusive access to a convenient and transparent maintenance process.
Here’s how it works. Volvo owners can either use the Volvo Valet smartphone app for iOS or Android, or call a participating retailer to schedule an appointment and preferred pickup time. Either way, a dealership employee will then arrive to pick up the car and drop off a loaner vehicle for the duration of maintenance work. Using the Volvo Valet app, the customer can see where the driver is and when they will arrive, in a similar way to howride-hailing appswork.
After their Volvo is taken for service, owners can receive a notification when the vehicle has reached the workshop. The customer is also notified the moment their car is ready to be picked up. The retailer will then contact the customer to schedule a time to return their Volvo and pick up the loaner.
To make sure the entire process is transparent, retailer employees are asked to photograph the condition of both cars at handoff. “Volvo Valet has been very successful in pilot testing over the last year and it is now ready to serve our customers and retailers in this unprecedented time,” said Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President Americas and President and CEO, Volvo Car USA.
Volvo Valet is a result ofVolvo’s acquisition of Luxe’s intellectual property in 2017and has been in pilot for the last several months. No third parties are involved, allowing retailers to keep the process fully transparent. Only Volvo Car USA, Volvo retailers and Volvo drivers are part of the process.
All Volvo vehicles regardless of their age are eligible for this service, at the discretion of individual retailers. While the Volvo Valet app currently handles maintenance and service only, the program will be expanded later in 2020 to include lease and purchase deliveries, lease returns, and overnight test drives.
